Established in October 2013, the new Institute for Southeast Asian Archaeology (ISEAA) continues and builds upon the decades-long archaeological research programs in Thailand and Laos at the University of Pennsylvania Museum.
Due to strategic decisions to downsize, Penn Museum has recently ended funding for its research program for Southeast Asian Archaeology. The new Institute was founded to continue the research and publications programs of the Ban Chiang Project and the Middle Mekong Archaeological Project (MMAP) . ISEAA will also serve as a home for future research projects in Southeast Asian archaeology.
